17 Deadlock Tips That Make Every Game Easier
Seventeen tips from the Advanced Tips series. Two of them describe mechanics that changed in later updates, and those are flagged.
Fighting
- Slide for infinite ammo. While sliding, your ammo shows a green infinity symbol. Dash, then crouch to turn the dash into a slide. Sliding downhill lasts longer.
- Bait the parry. High-rank players parry a heavy melee's wind-up every time. Throw a light melee or fake the heavy, wait for their parry, then hit with the real one.
- Parry the Guardian. A parried Guardian is stunned for two seconds and can't punch for five more. Parry, then unload into it.
- Kill the fed player first. Killing an enemy far ahead pays bonus souls, and after ten minutes fed players wait longer to respawn. Check the scoreboard before the fight.
- Know what Cursed Relic can't do. It strips barriers and many buffs, even zipline boosts and teleporter progress. It does nothing to an Unstoppable target, and a cursed enemy can still melee and parry.
Lane and map
- Drop troopers early. Shoot the vessel on the zipline to drop the enemy wave where you want it.
- Hit Walkers at the right time. Walkers start with 65% damage resist, reaching zero around minute nine, and by minute eighteen take 65% extra damage. Farm and fight early, then melt them later.
- Listen for the bell. Hitting the slot machines in Chinatown's bell tower rings a bell everyone hears. If you hear it, someone is up there, probably alone.
- Stop zooming while you rotate. After five seconds out of combat you sprint automatically, and aiming down sights cancels it.
Objectives
- Steal the Soul Urn. The carrier can't parry, so one melee hit or any stun makes them drop it. Pick it up and run it the other way.
- Punch the Rejuvenator three times. In the version covered in the video, each heavy melee gave your team another revive credit, up to three, and the first puncher healed to full. (The October 30 update reworked this into three crystals, each giving a revive.)
- Finish Sinner's Sacrifice the right way. When all bulbs light, hit it for the jackpot. A heavy melee gives four permanent buffs; a light one gives one. It can't hit back during the jackpot.
- Losing? Take the Rift. The team behind captures it faster, gets bonus resists nearby, and gets bonus souls and extra Rift Troopers if it wins.
Items and mechanics
- Use the shop refund. Sell an item before leaving the shop area and you get every soul back. After that you only get half.
- Plan for the 4.8k spike. At 4,800 souls in one category, the bonus jumps. Don't sell those items afterward, since you lose the bonus.
- Read the damage dot. The video shows a colored dot on an enemy's health bar that indicates falloff: red means 10-20% damage, orange up to 35%, yellow up to 75%, none means close to full. A later update removed the dot, so judge range by feel and the Hero Sandbox now.
- Wall jump fatigue. Every wall jump after the first adds fatigue and goes a little less high. A heavy melee in the air adds fatigue too. Landing resets it.
