Every time you die you're not farming and the enemy is, so dying less is basically free money. Your health bar is not a suggestion: when it's low, leave.

Step one: learn to move

  • Shift is your dash. It uses stamina, the little bars under your crosshair.
  • Dash jump: dash, then jump while the stamina bars are blue, and you leap a long way fast. It's the quickest escape.
  • Wall jumps: your first wall jump is free, and while you slide you have infinite ammo.
  • Out of stamina? Hold melee for a heavy attack. It lunges you forward without costing stamina.
  • Down dash: double-tap crouch in the air to drop straight down.
  • Sprint: stay out of combat for five seconds and you start sprinting automatically. Zooming in cancels it.
  • There is no fall damage, so jump off any building you like.

Step two: press F

F is the parry button. If someone tries to melee you and you parry it, they're stunned for almost three seconds, which is a free kill. Watch for the wind-up of a heavy melee. You can even parry troopers and Guardians.

Don't spam it. If you parry at nothing, you're stuck in the animation for a moment, and smart players wait for exactly that.

Step three: stop wandering alone

Some heroes are built to hunt lonely players. Drifter gets stronger against anyone isolated. So check your minimap: if enemies are missing from their lanes, they're probably coming for someone.

If you hear a bell ringing across the map, someone is farming the bell tower in Chinatown, probably alone. When moving between lanes, go with a teammate.

Step four: fight smart

  • Range matters. Bullets lose damage over distance, so fight where your gun actually hurts. (The video mentions a health-bar dot that shows this; a later update removed it, so rely on range feel and the Hero Sandbox instead.)
  • Aim for the head. Headshots do 1.65 times damage.
  • Back up toward your own Guardian if you're losing a lane fight. It shoots enemies who damage you nearby.
  • Healing Rite heals you and makes you faster. Use it after a fight, not during one, because taking damage cancels it.
  • Read your death recap. If guns are killing you, buy bullet resist. If abilities are, buy spirit resist.

Once you're ahead, dying gets more expensive: fed players pay out bigger bounties and wait longer to respawn.
