The Deadlock Map Explained
The Deadlock map is a haunted New York. Your team defends one end, the enemy defends the other, and everything in between is a fight.
Uptown belongs to the Archmother's team, with fancy white brick buildings. Downtown belongs to the Hidden King's team, with red brick and factories.
The three lanes
- Blue: Broadway. Runs from Uptown through Times Square to Downtown. The entrances to the Midboss are here.
- Green: Greenwich. A university, Central Park, and a giant tree you can climb.
- Yellow: York. The Stock Exchange, the Seaport and some old factories.
Every lane has ziplines running along it. Ride them to get back to your lane fast after you die. Remember the bridges in the yellow and green lanes: the Soul Urn and the Unstable Rift both show up around them, so a lot of fights start there.
The jungle
Four districts sit between the lanes. Chinatown and the Haunted Lot are on the Hidden King's side, and the Plaza and the Theater are on the Archmother's.
- Each district has monsters called Haunts. The color of a Haunt's eye tells you how tough it is, and shooting the eye does extra damage.
- Haunts get stronger every minute, and when you clear a camp a timer shows when it returns.
- Some Haunts are barrels that light their own fuse and explode, so kill those fast.
- The Plaza has a sunken pit full of purple mist that muffles your hearing and drains your stamina.
- Chinatown has a big bell tower with slot machines on top. Farm them and the bell rings for the whole lobby.
Objectives that get you ahead
- Soul Urn: spawns by the bridge, and the first one is always in York. Hit it to pick it up, carry it across the map, and you get souls plus permanent buffs. Get hit and you drop it.
- Unstable Rift: opens on a side lane's bridge starting around eleven minutes in. Stand in the circle to capture it. If your team is behind, you capture it faster.
- Sinner's Sacrifice: slot machines you punch for souls. Hit the jackpot with a heavy melee for four permanent buffs.
- Midboss: lives in a pit under the center of the map. Kill it as a team, then punch the green crystal it drops so your team can revive where they die for three minutes. You can only damage it from inside the pit, and its shield regenerates, so don't try it alone at minute five.
Note: the October 30 gameplay update changed the Midboss reward, so the Rejuvenator now drops as three crystals. Check current patch notes for exact numbers.
How you actually push
Each lane has a Guardian, then a Walker. Then the enemy base has Base Guardians, two Shrines, and finally the Patron.
- Walkers are very tanky at the start of the game and get a lot weaker over the first eighteen minutes, so don't spend your early game on them.
- Shrines can't be damaged until you've killed a pair of Base Guardians.
- The Patron has two phases. Bring friends.
